Thomas Muller is Germany's GOAT: Bayern Munich legend edges past Real Madrid hero to become his country's most successful player after Vancouver Whitecaps title win

Thomas Muller became Germany’s most successful player after winning the Canadian Championship with Vancouver Whitecaps, who defeated local rivals Vancouver FC 4-2 in the final. Muller had previously been tied on titles with Real Madrid legend Toni Kroos. However, he downplayed the achievement, saying he plays for the love of the game and not for trophies.

Muller’s record achievement

Muller has now won 35 titles in total, his latest coming with Vancouver Whitecaps winning the Canadian Championship, moving ahead of former team-mate Kroos, who ended his career on 34. While Kroos has six Champions League titles with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, Muller has two with Bayern. However, Muller has won 13 league titles compared to Kroos’s seven across the two clubs. The latter retired in 2024, while Muller left Bayern to join Whitecaps in the summer of this year.

AdvertisementImagnMuller’s comments on the historic achievement

In an interview with , Muller said he believes the comparison with Kroos is not entirely fair, given his former co-star has more Champions League titles. He said: "I'd rather say: 'Germany's most successful title hoarder.' The question is always: How do you weight these titles? One player wins the national championship more often, while the other has more Champions League victories to his name.

"Statistics are a nice thing, nothing more and nothing less. I don't play football for my 'title legacy,' but because I simply love being on the pitch."

Muller’s contribution

Muller provided an assist for the Whitecaps in the fifth minute before slotting home a penalty in the 10th to give his team a 2-0 lead. He was eventually substituted in the 79th minute to a standing ovation.

Domingo replaces Gough as Lahore Qalandars coach

Qalandars announced Gough would be unavailable to take on the role due to “unavoidable personal commitments”

Danyal Rasool29-Mar-2025Russell Domingo has replaced Darren Gough as head coach of Lahore Qalandars. Qalandars announced Gough would be unavailable to take on the role due to “unavoidable personal commitments”.Gough was initially appointed Qalandars coach for the Global Super League in Guyana last year, with the understanding he would continue in that role and take charge of the Qalandars side for the tenth edition of the PSL. While the Qalandars finished fourth and were eliminated in the group stages, they were impressed by Gough’s tactical acumen and made clear the appointment was long-termQalandars have been left disappointed by Gough’s late pullout, though in a statement they said they “understood and respected” his prior commitments. “He remains a valued part of the Qalandars family, and we sincerely wish him the very best.”In his stead, Domingo, former South Africa and Bangladesh coach, will take the job on as Qalandars look to pick up their third title in four years. “I am really excited to be part of the Lahore Qalandars for the 2025 PSL season. I can’t wait to get to work, meet the players and get to know the management and start preparation for what promises to be an amazingly exciting campaign. We know we will have all the support from our faithful supporters and I look forward to making you all proud in the coming weeks.””We are delighted to have Russell Domingo join us as head coach for PSL 10,” Qalandars co-owner Sameen Rana said. “Russel has vast experience at the international level that makes him an invaluable asset for the Qalandars. We believe his expertise will contribute immensely to our team’s success in PSL 10.”The PSL begins on April 11 when the Qalandars take on defending champions Islamabad United in Rawalpindi.

Chelsea firmly in race to sign £35m England int'l who Barcelona also want

Chelsea are now firmly in the race to sign an England international also wanted by Barcelona, who has been described as “one of the best” in Europe.

Blues miss opportunity to go top of the table

The Blues squandered their chance to go top of the Premier League table on Saturday afternoon, with Fabio Carvalho bagging a stoppage-time equaliser for Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium, to ensure the spoils were shared in a 2-2 draw.

Enzo Maresca was forced into making three half-time substitutions, given that a number of players are yet to reach full match fitness, including Wesley Fofana, who made his first Premier League start of the season.

Maresca is a little light on options in defence, having not brought in a replacement for Levi Colwill during the summer transfer window, with the Englishman set for a lengthy spell on the treatment table due to an ACL injury.

According to journalist Graeme Bailey, however, signing a new centre-back is on the to-do list, with Chelsea now firmly back in the race to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, who nearly joined Liverpool in a £35m deal on deadline day.

Speaking about the west Londoners’ interest, Bailey said: “Chelsea know all about Guehi, but this summer they opted not to bring in a new central defender, even after Levi Colwill’s injury. However, the chance to add a homegrown star, currently one of the best in Europe – it is just not logical for them not to be involved.

Chelsea scouts spotted watching 17 y/o gem who's been dubbed the new Kante

He’s a rising star…

ByTom Cunningham Sep 13, 2025

“Chelsea know Guehi’s character, he is a fantastic person and everyone who meets him relays that fact – I was told by one high ranking Premier League executive that signing him is one of the ‘least risky’ transfers that anyone could do.

There could be fierce competition for the defender’s signature, however, with Liverpool still thought to be in pole position, while the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also named as potential suitors.

Guehi could be upgrade on Colwill

There are indications the Palace captain could be an upgrade on Colwill, given that he is far more established at international level, having picked up 25 caps for England, compared to just five for the Chelsea defender.

Not only that, but the 25-year-old has outperformed Colwill across a number of key defensive metrics over the past year, while also proving himself as more of an attacking threat.

Kyogo 2.0: Birmingham ready late raid for £2m star who can be "world-class"

Birmingham City might well have crashed out of the EFL Cup on Wednesday night to League One opponents Port Vale, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that Chris Davies’ side is still unbeaten in the Championship.

Indeed, the Blues have collected two wins and a draw with the confidence of a second-tier regular, with a trip to recently relegated Leicester City tomorrow night not fazing the West Midlands side in the slightest.

The reigning third-tier champions won’t be done with purchases this summer just yet, either, even with this fast start out of the blocks, as a last-ditch Kyogo Furuhashi repeat looks to be in the offing.

Birmingham plot late move for £2m sensation

Adding in Lewis Koumas on loan from Liverpool is the latest venture Birmingham has made in the hectic transfer window, which has lifted the Blues’ total of summer incomings to a sturdy 12.

Koumas isn’t the only exciting winger addition that could be on the cards, however, as a surprise move now looks to be on the horizon for Davies to raid his former employers in Celtic.

As per an exclusive report from Football League World, despite signing off on a whole barrage of purchases this summer, Birmingham look to be in for South Korean sensation Yang Hyun-jun, having now allegedly made an approach for his services.

Having already had success in the Asian market with the additions of Tomoki Iwata and Seung Paik Ho, this could well prove to be another inspired pick-up, with the 23-year-old unlikely to cost the Blues too much of a pretty penny, having previously joined Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops for just £2m back in 2023.

While he has consistently struggled for gametime for the green and white half of Glasgow, he would be seen as a welcome addition to boost an already potent Blues attack, with the hope he can be as instantly impactful as the aforementioned Kyogo at St. Andrew’s, who also once called Parkhead home.

Why Yang can be Kyogo 2.0

Much like Birmingham in recent years, Celtic have regularly dipped into the Asian market amid the search for fresh talent – and have done so with a real degree of success.

Kyogo is surely the cream of the crop to have pulled on the famous Hoops strip from this part of the world, as seen in him finishing off his trophy-laden time in Glasgow with an astounding 86 strikes next to his name, having successfully made the jump from Vissel Kobe.

He has since made a similar level of leap to the hustle and bustle of Championship football look effortless too, with the “unbelievable” former hero in Scotland – as he was once dubbed by his ex-Celtic manager in Ange Postecoglou – gobbling up this gifted opportunity on just his third game for the club to get off the mark.

Yang will hope he can also make the same tricky transition look as seamless, with his own bright form at Parkhead seeing current Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers label him as a “fantastic” asset to have around the place.

When the former Leicester City boss has required an injection of life to his side late on, he has regularly relied on the 23-year-old as an impact substitute, with Yang amazingly chipping in with a hefty haul of 11 goals and assists when starting just 19 games across his last full two seasons in the Scottish Premiership.

Therefore, while he might not be as front and centre to Davies’ plans as the £10m buy of Kyogo, he could well prove to be an exciting late purchase all the same, particularly if he adds in even more quality to fire the Blues immediately up to the Premier League.

Gangwon president Kim Byung-ji even claimed that he “could easily become a world-class player like Son Heung-min”, and it will be intriguing to see how Yang settles into life in the Championship.

He has, of course, shown off spurts of his quality with Celtic, albeit from irregular opportunities.

The proof will soon be in the pudding as to whether the left-field winger will shine or, unfortunately, struggle, as both Yang and Kyogo aim to guide the Blues to a second promotion success on the trot.

Finn Allen, Saud Shakeel, Abrar Ahmed give Quetta Gladiators massive win

Quetta Gladiators swept Peshawar Zalmi aside, railroading them by 80 runs to get off the perfect start in the tenth edition of the PSL.The win was set up by an imperious batting performance, with Finn Allen’s whirlwind 25-ball 53 setting the tone for the rest of the innings. Saud Shakeel’s own brisk half-century in Allen’s slipstream got Gladiators off to a flyer in the powerplay. Hasan Nawaz, Rilee Rossouw and Kusal Mendis ensured there was no let-up as they set Zalmi 217 to win.Zalmi’s response never threatened to insert jeopardy into the game despite a 38-ball half-century from Saim Ayub on his return. Abrar Ahmed ran riot through the middle and lower order with four wickets as Zalmi lost six for 24 runs, with only an entertaining cameo from Australian Mitchell Owen sparing them an even bigger defeat.Zalmi had won the toss and opted to chase, but that immediately pitted their weakest skillset against Gladiators’ strongest. Ayub opened the bowling and went for 11, but that was almost economical in comparison to what happened to Zalmi’s specialists. Alzarri Joseph and Mohammad Ali were flayed by Shakeel and Finn Allen as 65 came in the powerplay. When Zalmi’s trump card Sufiyan Muqeem was called up, Allen smashed him for three sixes and a four off his first four balls, and even though Muqeem dismissed Allen off the over’s final ball, the damage had been done.Mohammad Amir dismissed Babar Azam for a duck•PSL

Nawaz and Rossouw kept the momentum of the powerplay up through the middle overs, with emerging quick Ali Raza the only one to stem the flow of runs. However, Zalmi couldn’t find the penetration to blast their way through the upper middle order into a less explosive lower order and a potentially long tail. Shakeel and Nawaz’s departure only heralded the arrival of Mendis, whose destructive cameo – an unbeaten 35 off 14 – came as part of a rapid partnership with Rossouw, which brought 58 runs off the innings’ final 23 balls.Zalmi had never chased a total this big, and when Babar Azam chipped Mohammad Amir to short extra cover for a second-ball duck, it didn’t look likely to change. Mohammad Haris and Ayub came together – perhaps the two best positioned to bat through a Zalmi powerplay. A few boundaries in a cameo of a partnership sent them on their way, but when Abrar latched onto a shot from Haris off his own bowling in the fourth over, it was followed up by a two-ball duck from Tom Kohler-Cadmore, and the tide turned irreversibly.Hussain Talat resisted alongside Ayub as Zalmi worked frantically to keep their head above water, but with the asking rate approaching 14, even their best efforts saw their side chasing shadows. High-risk cricket was unavoidable, and a reverse sweep from Talat brought about his downfall. That opened the floodgates. Max Bryant clipped Usman Tariq back to the bowler the very next delivery, and a back-of-the-hand slower ball from Kyle Jamieson sent Ayub on his way soon after he reached his half-century.Abrar returned to run through the lower order, and though Owen offered Zalmi some encouragement for death hitting in the remainder of their campaign, smashing four sixes in a 13-ball 31, it was short-lived. Amir returned to draw a top edge from the Australian, with Mendis getting underneath it sharply with the gloves. It was a clinical, professional end to a game where Gladiators had been exactly that.

Arsenal could have saved millions on Hincapie with "unique" £1m Hale Ender

Arsenal’s summer transfer window once again blended big-money investment with their long-standing faith in youth.

After finishing second in the Premier League last season, and reaching the Champions League semi-finals, the club doubled down on its squad rebuild.

Major arrivals included Martin Zubimendi, Viktor Gyökeres, Noni Madueke, Eberechi Eze, Cristhian Mosquera, Christian Nørgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Departures such as Jakub Kiwior, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Reiss Nelson cleared space in the squad, while Arsenal also leaned heavily on their Hale End academy graduates.

Ethan Nwaneri, now 18, continues to develop after becoming the Premier League’s youngest-ever debutant in 2022.

Myles Lewis-Skelly enjoyed a breakout season, and Max Dowman, still only 15, made his senior bow against Leeds.

That commitment to the academy has become a central pillar of Arsenal’s squad-building philosophy under Mikel Arteta.

Yet while several young prospects have been integrated, others have slipped away.

The balance between spending heavily and nurturing talent is once again at the heart of Arsenal’s defensive planning.

Who is Piero Hincapié, and Why Did Arsenal Sign Him?

When Arsenal announced the arrival of Piero Hincapié from Bayer Leverkusen on loan with a £45m option to buy, it was framed as a major upgrade on the left side of their defence.

At 23, the Ecuadorian international already brings European pedigree, with 32 Bundesliga appearances last season, contributing two goals and two assists.

Piero Hincapie in action for Bayer Leverkusen

Hincapié has been on Arsenal’s radar for years, valued for his ability to operate at both left centre-back and left-back.

With Gabriel undergoing hamstring surgery at the end of last season and Riccardo Calafiori struggling with fitness, versatility is essential.

Sporting Director Andrea Berta emphasised Hincapié’s tactical flexibility, and Arteta believes he is not simply cover but a genuine competitor for a starting role. His statistical profile backs up the excitement.

Compared to positional peers, Hincapié ranked in the 96th percentile for progressive carries (1.69 per 90), underlining his comfort driving forward with the ball.

He also sat in the 86th percentile for progressive passes (4.94 per 90) and an eye-catching 94th percentile for key passes (0.54 per 90) – numbers that show how he can help Arsenal’s build-up from deep.

Defensively, he impressed in the 89th percentile for tackles won (1.29 per 90) and the 86th percentile for passes blocked (0.72 per 90).

This blend of defensive solidity and forward-thinking distribution makes him a natural fit for Arteta’s system, where centre-backs are expected to initiate attacks as much as they are to shut them down.

His arrival represents a continuation of Arsenal’s recent strategy: recruit players with multi-positional value while retaining the ability to progress possession.

Ayden Heaven could have been Hincapie 2.0

As Arsenal commit to potentially spending £45m next summer to make Hincapié’s move permanent, questions linger over whether they let a homegrown option slip through their fingers.

Ayden Heaven, once considered one of the Hale End academy’s brightest defensive prospects, departed for Manchester United in February for a fee of just £1m.

Ayden Heaven for Arsenal.

His departure came after limited opportunities at the Emirates despite being highly rated within the club. Analyst Ben Mattinson once described Heaven as “highly unique,” and he has quickly shown why.

Drafted into United’s first-team picture earlier than expected after Lisandro Martínez’s season-ending injury, the 18-year-old has already made eight appearances for the Red Devils.

He has looked composed in possession, comfortable carrying the ball out from defence, and tactically assured despite his age.

United moved quickly to secure him on a long-term deal running until 2029, amid reported interest from Barcelona, Frankfurt and Marseille.

Heaven’s profile, a left-footed defender who is confident on the ball, is precisely the type of player Arsenal are now looking to integrate through Hincapié.

The irony is hard to miss.

Where Hincapié ranks among Europe’s best for progressive actions, Heaven has showcased similar traits in his early United outings.

His poise on the ball and ability to step into midfield mirrors the qualities Arteta demands from his defenders.

For a club that has prided itself on giving opportunities to youth, losing Heaven for such a modest fee may come to be seen as a misstep.

The comparison is not to suggest Hincapié is the wrong signing – his experience and proven metrics make him a high-level addition.

But for a side that has successfully nurtured Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly, the case of Heaven highlights the fine margins of squad planning.

Arsenal could soon pay £45m for a defender to fill the very role that a Hale End graduate, now at a Premier League rival, may have slotted into seamlessly.

Man Utd targeting "incredible" 4-2-3-1 manager who's won three league titles

Manchester United have now identified an “incredible” manager who’s won three league titles as a potential replacement for Ruben Amorim.

Amorim still under pressure despite Chelsea victory

Amorim managed to stave off some pressure by securing a 2-1 victory at home against Chelsea at the weekend, but there are still doubts over the 40-year-old’s future, given that his record as Man United boss leaves a lot to be desired.

Despite the victory over the Blues, the United boss also received criticism from Theo Walcott for some of his in-game decisions, with the former Arsenal winger saying: “The centre-halves… my centre-halves at Arsenal never got changed. Or at Arsenal now, centre-halves do not get changed. Do not change your back four.

“Wingers get changed, which is annoying. I always used to get subbed and thought, ‘Okay, I’ve done my job.’ It was generally the pattern. [But] centre-halves? Don’t change that. It’s too dangerous for me.”

On paper, the Red Devils have some very winnable games coming up next, taking on Brentford and Sunderland, but it remains to be seen how much longer Amorim can last in the job, given that he is still under intense scrutiny.

According to a report from Football Insider, the Man United hierarchy are now making preparations for life after Amorim, having identified Fulham’s Marco Silva as a potential replacement for the manager.

There have been suggestions that Silva could leave Fulham, given his concerns surrounding the ambition of the club, which could open the door for a move to Old Trafford, although he is not the only target.

Fellow Premier League managers, Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner and AFC Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, make up the three-man shortlist, with INEOS making contingency plans in case results do not improve.

Earns more than Bruno: INEOS must brutally cash in on Man Utd "monster"

Manchester United must ensure this high-earning star is taken off the books ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

ByAngus Sinclair Sep 22, 2025 "Incredible" Silva has earned move to top club

Having been at Craven Cottage since July 2021, the Fulham boss is the third-longest serving manager in the Premier League, and he has done a stellar job in west London, guiding the club to promotion before consolidating them as a top-flight side.

During the 2023-24 season, the 48-year-old also received high praise from Stephen Warnock, who lauded him for the “incredible” work he’s done with the Cottagers.

Fulham is not the only club at which the Portuguese manager has been successful either, having won the Greek League with Olympiacos, and the Portuguese second division with GD Estoril Praia, alongside the Championship.

With three league titles to his name, Silva, who most commonly deploys a 4-2-3-1 formation, has arguably earned the chance to prove himself at a top club, so he would be an interesting option if United part ways with Amorim.

Kylian Mbappe leaves France squad: Real Madrid superstar forced to return to Spain due to ankle injury and will miss Iceland World Cup qualifier

Kylian Mbappe limped off the pitch late on during France’s clash with Azerbaijan and will now miss Les Bleus’ World Cup qualifier with Iceland after he was sent back to Real Madrid to recover. Mbappe scored a stunner at the Parc des Princes, but scenes towards the end left fans of Real Madrid and France waiting anxiously for test result updates on the injured ankle.

  • Ankle injury to blame for exit

Mbappe’s participation in Friday evening’s clash with Azerbaijan had been hanging in the balance due to an ankle injury sustained in the previous match for Real Madrid against Villarreal. He suffered another ankle knock in the World Cup qualifier and was substituted in the 83rd minute.

A statement from the French Football Federation read: "Upon the French delegation's return to Clairefontaine, the French team captain spoke with Didier Deschamps. The national coach has confirmed his absence. Kylian Mbappe has been released to his club and will not be replaced."

    Mbappe’s remarkable scoring run

Mbappe is currently enjoying a remarkable scoring run, having scored in his last 10 consecutive matches for both club and country. His recent scoring streak includes goals against Ukraine, Real Sociedad, Kairat, and Espanyol, with Mbappe hitting the net in multiple competitions.

He broke the deadlock in France's 3-0 World Cup qualifying win against Azerbaijan on Friday night with his 17th goal in 13 appearances for club and country this season, which also marked his 53rd international goal for France, meaning he is now only four goals away from Olivier Giroud's record as Les Bleus' all-time top scorer. But Mbappe has some way to go to match the record of consecutive goals in LaLiga matches, a title which is held by the legendary Lionel Messi, who bagged in an incredible 21 matches in a row, scoring 33 goals in the process during the 2012-13 season.

  • Initial test results look positive

Following news of his return to the Spanish capital, there was a positive update from renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano. Romano said: "Kylian Mbappe completed tests this morning and his ankle injury’s not seen as serious/worrying. Real Madrid staff expect Mbappe to be available for the upcoming week."

Free-wheeler with world at his (fast) feet

France coach Deschamps spoke at length about Mbappe’s impact and lauded his contributions during the press conference before their clash against Azerbaijan and Iceland. "He's a central striker. The range of abilities depends on the system. With us, he has freedom, like most strikers. In the centre, there are fewer constraints, especially defensively. He has legs of fire, he's confident, and his head is also fine. He exudes a lot of power and speed, and that's where he makes even more of a difference. He's totally committed to us, he fully assumes his role as captain and his responsibility towards the group. We can always do better. He's a central striker who likes to have freedom and participate in the game."

France are sitting pretty at the top of their World Cup qualification group, and should still be able to see off Iceland on Monday, despite the mountain of injuries. And Mbappe is expected to be fit for Real’s next match, an away trip to Getafe on Sunday the 19th.

Real have enjoyed a strong start to the season and currently sit top of La Liga, with seven wins and just one defeat from their first eight games; they sit two points clear of Barcelona. They have also won their two opening Champions League fixtures as they continue to pursue European glory. They have not won the Champions League since 2024.
