Simon Jordan has been reacting to a Rangers manager update from Ibrox in the last 48 hours, with the talkSPORT man left confused about who could take over from Michael Beale.
What’s the latest Rangers manager news?
The Gers are on the search for another new manager after officially parting ways with Beale on Sunday. The 43-year-old took over back in November and led the club in 43 games, averaging a respectable 2.23 points per game. However, the start to the 2023/24 season wasn’t ideal for Rangers, losing four of their opening 14 games, already falling seven points behind rivals Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
The club don’t appear to be rushing into naming a long-term successor for Beale either, with Steven Davis in interim charge at Ibrox. One name who has been heavily linked with the role, though, is Frank Lampard. The former Chelsea manager would reportedly command a considerable salary but appears to be one name on the list alongside Kevin Muscat and Chris Wilder.
Speaking on talkSport’s White & Jordan on Tuesday, relayed by Ibrox News, Jordan reacted to the possibility of Lampard taking charge in Glasgow, admitting it ‘makes no sense’ and even saying Lampard ‘needs to go away and regroup and become a football manager’.
“I’m not sure that Frank Lampard would be the right fit. I’m trying to work out on what basis would I be looking at Frank Lampard as a fit for Rangers.
“I don’t think he did a particularly great job towards the end at Chelsea when he had resources. At Derby, he didn’t get them to the promised land. He goes to Everton he didn’t have the toolkit, he may well have kept them up by the skin of their teeth the first team round but when it came on top Frank Lampard would have got them relegated.
“The only reason you put Lampard in the conversation is because it’s Frank Lampard the player. You don’t put him in the conversation because it’s Frank Lampard the manager, that’s why it makes no sense to me. Lampard is just a figure of people’s imagination right now, he needs to go away and regroup and become a football manager.”
Chelsea managerFrankLampard
Frank Lampard’s managerial record…
Lampard has held three permanent senior managerial roles during his career in the dugout, the first of which came in the EFL with Derby County. The 45-year-old led the Rams to the Championship playoff final during the 2018/19 season but lost to Aston Villa at Wembley, leaving for Chelsea that summer. He then averaged 1.75 points per game in 84 games at Stamford Bridge before being sacked.
A year later, Lampard was back in the dugout at Everton but once again struggled, averaging a point a game in 44 fixtures as the Toffees battled at the bottom of the Premier League. A return to Chelsea on an interim basis materialised earlier this year, with the Blues averaging an awful 0.45 points per fixture in 11 games.
Therefore, you can see why Jordan has been left confused at the possibility of Lampard taking over from Beale, but by the looks of things, a move to Ibrox is one to watch.
Chelsea already missing Kerr, Bright & moreJames & Kirby now doubts for Arsenal clashRamirez & Bjorn already ruled outWHAT HAPPENED?
The Blues welcome the Gunners to Stamford Bridge on Friday night with just three points separating them in the Women's Super League title race, but Emma Hayes' side have got quite the injury list right now. Sam Kerr, Mia Fishel and Millie Bright are among the club's long-term absentees but Hayes confirmed in her press conference on Thursday that even more could be missing for this London derby.

"We'll have no Mayra Ramirez, no Nat Bjorn, maybe no Fran Kirby. Lauren James has been sick," Hayes told reporters, adding that defender Maren Mjelde and goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger are also still missing. "There's a big treatment room at this moment in time," she said.

Chelsea's attack in particular is suffering as a result of these injuries, with Kerr, Fishel and Ramirez all centre forwards. The Blues will be desperately hoping that James and Kirby can be fit to play, then, while Catarina Macario's return from an ACL rupture has come at a perfect time.

DID YOU KNOW?
When Chelsea and Arsenal met in the reverse of this fixture at the Emirates Stadium in December, the Gunners emerged comfortable winners in a 4-1 rout.
TalkSPORT pundit and former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O'Hara says a once "awful" Spurs player could now be worth "£100 million".
Tottenham 2-0 Fulham
Ange Postecoglou's imperious Lilywhites have maintained their unbeaten start to the season; making it seven wins from a possible nine after Spurs' 2-0 victory over Fulham on Monday evening. Son Heung-min's deadly right-footed finish and another from summer signing James Maddison, 10 minutes either side of half time, sealed a record for Postecoglou – the best ever start made by a new manager in the Premier League.
Supporters, following Antonio Conte's hapless last campaign in charge over 2022/2023, are now in dreamland with Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher hailing Tottenham's newly-found exciting style of play under their new popular new head coach.
"Most Spurs fans are not getting too carried away about winning the title. They will be delighted with making the Champions League next season," said the former Liverpool defender.
"They started well last season under Antonio Conte but there wasn't the same excitement. Fans look forward to watching the team play again. It has been a grind for a long time for Spurs and now the style of play brings some excitement back. Tottenham play really brave football. Fans are loving watching their team again."
Postecoglou, though, moved to temper expectations somewhat when speaking to the press; saying that Tottenham can still improve on what they're doing and become an even more formidable side.
"I think I've sat here every week and said that we have a long way to go," said Postecoglou.
"That doesn't change. We are nine games in and we're at the beginning of building something. It would be so much easier for me to sit here and say 'yeah, we're a great team'. What I'm saying is we have to improve and that puts the responsibility on me to make sure we do it. We can be better, absolutely we can."
Usual suspects like Maddison and Son yet again dazzled for the north Londoners last night, but one player who was unable to contribute, due to suspension, was Mali international Yves Bissouma.
Yves Bissouma update
The £25m signing has been one of the major success stories of Postecoglou's early reign; starting every single top flight match for Tottenham before his sending off against Luton Town earlier this month. TalkSPORT pundit O'Hara, speaking to the broadcaster on Monday morning, has heralded the once "awful" Bissouma's transformation and even claims he's now worth "£100 million".
“All of a sudden I look at the side now and think, ‘You know what, we’ve got that kind of team back again’" said O'Hara on talkSPORT.
“[Destiny] Udogie, [Pedro] Porro, [Micky] Van de Ven, James Maddison, you’ve got a side all of a sudden. Bissouma, everyone wrote Bissouma off. Last season, he was absolutely awful. I watched him a couple of times last season and he looked like he had forgotten how to play football.
“Like honestly, it was so bad, it was like watching Gabby [Agbonlahor] playing in midfield. And now it’s turned, Bissouma looks brilliant. He looks like a £100m player.”
Likes to shoot from distance
Likes to play short passes
In some good news, it's likely Bissouma will return to the line up against Crystal Palace this Friday after serving his one-match suspension.
Chelsea will still be feeling the frustration from their 2-2 draw against title-chasers Arsenal. The Blues got off to a blistering start to take the lead through Cole Palmer's penalty, before Mykhailo Mudryk doubled their lead. Things quickly went downhill, however, after Robert Sanchez's mistake gifted Arsenal a route back into the game and Leandro Trossard then struck a dagger into Mauricio Pochettino's side with a late equaliser.
The spotlight following the result will be on Sanchez after his mistake, and the transfer rumours are already suggesting that Pochettino is interested in strengthening the shot-stopping department in the January window.
Chelsea transfer news
It was once again a summer full of arrivals at Stamford Bridge, with the likes of Moises Caicedo, Palmer, and Nicolas Jackson all coming through the door with mixed results ever since. Todd Boehly will know that the best is yet to come from the young players that he opted to invest in over the summer, but he will at least hope to see Pochettino guide the Blues back into a form of European competition this season, perhaps even the Champions League.
The transfers look set to continue in January, too, which could include a surprise move. The latest Aaron Ramsdale transfer news suggests that the out-of-favour Arsenal goalkeeper has attracted interest from his London rivals. According to Ben Jacobs, Chelsea could target the England international in January in the hope of putting an end to their goalkeeping troubles once and for all.
With the Euros coming up next summer, Ramsdale will be well aware of just how important game time is this season, and that could see him jump at the chance of a move to another top club if he fails to win his Arsenal place back in the coming months.
Why isn't Aaron Ramsdale playing for Arsenal?
The last time that Ramsdale featured for Arsenal in the Premier League came in a 3-1 victory over Manchester United back at the start of September. It was then that Mikel Arteta decided to make a change, with the introduction of summer signing David Raya, who has looked nervous at times. Arteta could still persist with the former Brentford man, however, given that Ramsdale's stats compared to Raya's have the current number one coming out on top, as per Squawka.

Ramsdale proved that he is more than capable of stepping up for Arsenal in the past, though, and with the goalkeeper out-of-favour, Chelsea could swoop in. The former Bournemouth man has even earned the praise of Premier League legend David Seaman, who said, via The Daily Mail: "People forget he’s only 24. So that is amazing for me because I didn’t join Arsenal until I was 26 – what he’s doing now at 24 is just phenomenal.
"He's making big saves all the time. There was one on Saturday at 1-0 that was world class. It wasn't like a flying save or anything like that but it was a really technical piece of goalkeeping, which he did brilliantly, and he's been doing that all season. In my career I was totally the opposite, I was laid back and I wasn't a shouter all the time, so there's different ways and I think Aaron – he's got a good mix and it's his own mix as well."
Nothing comes easy for Durham but they keep winning and now find themselves top of North Group

ScorecardDurham Jets moved back to the top of the Vitality Blast North Group courtesy of a 14-run win over the Leicestershire Foxes at Emirates Riverside. The Jets battled their way to a total of 156 from their 20 overs on a slow wicket thanks to a half-century from captain Tom Latham along with James Weighell, who provided late impetus with three sixes.Leicestershire struggled from the off, losing five early wickets. Colin Ackermann did his utmost to keep his side in contention with a fine innings of 74, but it proved to be in vain as the Jets closed out the win to move within touching distance of a quarter-final berth.Ackermann said of a defeat that left Leicestershire ever more adrift of the top four: “Obviously it’s disappointing. I thought we gave them too many in the field. It has been our Achilles’ heel this season, our fielding. It’s something that we have to improve on.”Durham won the toss and elected to bat, Latham and Clark ensured that their side once again made a solid start. The home side approached fifty before the powerplay before Zak Chappell produced a fine delivery to bowl Clark for 23. Paul Collingwood lasted just two balls when he was run out by Gavin Griffiths going for an ambitious second. The Jets continued to struggle to time the ball off the middle. The hero of their win over Lancashire Liam Trevaskis had a tough time, scoring eight off 12 before being stumped off Mohammad Nabi. Latham made a solid fifty, but was forced to work hard for his runs, reaching the milestone in 45 deliveries. The New Zealander fell for 52 to Callum Parkinson, being bowled attempting a reverse sweep. Will Smith kept the scoreboard ticking off with a decent knock of 26. The spark was provided by Weighell late in the innings, with the left-handed crashing three sixes over the rope to take Durham over the 150-run mark. He was run out off the penultimate ball, but Ryan Davies scampered a three off the final delivery to reach 156.Leicestershire’s reply got off to a poor start against the off-spin of Smith. Neil Dexter miscued his drive straight to Weighell, while Ben Raine followed to Chris Rushworth’s first ball, edging to Collingwood at slip. Nathan Rimmington compounded the Jets’ advantage, bowling Mark Cosgrove for seven before having Ateeq Javid caught behind to leave the visitors 22-4 in the fifth over.Nabi fell to the leg-spin of Ben Whitehead to continue the procession of Leicestershire wickets. Foxes skipper Ackermann offered resistance, playing a well-crafted innings to score a fifty off just 36 deliveries. He combined Ned Eckersley to reach a partnership worth 50 in 40 balls to keep the visitors in contention. The run rate continued to climb despite the efforts of Ackermann and Eckersley. Leicestershire’s captain fell five short of his career best for 74 in the penultimate over to Rimmington, who claimed his third wicket. Chappell had a late dart, but the Jets were able to close out the victory by 14 runs.
Lazio president, Claudio Lotito, has stirred controversy with his bizarre response to the alleged attack on Ciro Immobile by his own fans.

Immobile took to social media to recount a harrowing experience where he and his wife were reportedly subjected to a physical and verbal assault while picking up their four-year-old daughter from school. The incident has brought to light simmering tensions within the club, with Immobile's frustration seemingly directed towards the Italian press as recent reports have implicated him in the resignation of former manager Maurizio Sarri.
AdvertisementWHAT LOTITO SAID
Addressing the media, Lotito made a startling comparison between his own experiences and Immobile's ordeal and said: "It happens to me every day, I have lived under guard for 20 years. Daily death threats to me and my family. What is the theme? I'm the president of a company with 8,000 employees, yet I don't make all this fuss, period. And that's all I'll say."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Lotito's comments were contrary to the sentiment expressed on the club's social media channels which read: "The entire SS Lazio expresses full solidarity with its captain Ciro Immobile and his family for the disturbing and unacceptable attacks suffered in recent days. Sport, and consequently its ethical value, must remain as such: any act of verbal or physical violence must receive unanimous condemnation, firmly and without justification."

Immobile has yet to respond publicly to Lotito's comments, leaving many to speculate on the underlying tensions within the club.
The turmoil at Lazio comes amidst a turbulent period on the field. Following a string of poor results, including four losses in their last five matches, the club finds itself languishing in 9th position in Serie A. Their woes were compounded by a Champions League exit at the hands of Bayern Munich, who overturned a first-leg deficit to secure a 3-0 victory at the Allianz Arena. They will be back in action against Frosinone on Saturday evening in a Serie A fixture.

Top-three clash with Al-Ahli looms

WHAT HAPPENED?
The Portuguese forward cut a frustrated figure on Monday as his side tumbled out of Asia's premier competition on penalties after a chaotic seven-goal thriller against Al-Ain. It's been a difficult period for Ronaldo and Al-Nassr who were clearly rocked by elimination with the final four so tantalisingly close. But the captain looked to settle his team for the tasks ahead.

WHAT CRISTIANO RONALDO SAID
"Focused and ready," posted Ronaldo alongside a picture of preparations for Friday night's league encounter with third-placed Al-Hilal.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Al-Nassr need their captain's leadership. Their Champions League elimination came on the heels of two poor Pro League performances, drawing 4-4 with Al-Hazem while Ronaldo served a one-match suspension then crashing to defeat against strugglers Al-Raed at home. With their title hopes all but over as Al-Hilal sweep all before them, they need a positive result to re-energise their campaign.

WHAT NEXT FOR AL-NASSR?
Al-Nassr take on Al-Ahli with both sides struggling for momentum after disappointing campaigns. The action gets underway at King Abdullah Sports City at 1900 UK time.
It's a pretty good sign that Newcastle United's emphatic improvements over the past several years have spilled into the formative ranks as well as the progress made within the first-team.
While Paul Gascoigne is the salient example from way back when, successful graduates have been few and far between over the past several decades. Andy Carroll came through and secured a club-record £35m sale to Liverpool in 2011; way earlier, Peter Beardsley enjoyed a stellar career.
Unfortunately, there's not much else to really showcase the prowess of the Tyneside youth ranks, which has produced a steady flow of talent but little to really capture the awe of the footballing world on a global scale.
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe.
That's changing. Fast. the PIF takeover is washing through a city steeped in culture and heritage and painting St. James' Park in glittering new colours.
Indeed, resplendent in black and white, the Magpies have risen from Premier League strugglers to Champions League contenders, with manager Eddie Howe masterminding a stunning return to prominence.
For all the affluence, it must be pleasing to witness the hometown flourish on proceedings, with the recent 4-1 victory over Kylian Mbappe's Paris Saint-Germain a fine illustration of that.
Having gone decades without a taste of victory in Europe's elite club competition, United returned to winning ways with a thunderous bang, and with more than a little thanks to the Newcastle natives.
Dan Burn and Sean Longstaff both scored, academy prospects turned first-class phenoms, while resurgent Jacob Murphy continued to realise his dream with a starting berth and late assist to cement the stunning result.
20-year-old Elliot Anderson is also fast on the rise, while burgeoning midfielder Lewis Miley earned a start against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup last month.
It seems to be that Miley is the one to watch at present, with the prodigious talent yet to reach adulthood and already earning opportunities against the best that English football has to offer.
Who is Lewis Miley?
Last season, youngster Miley earned his senior debut on the final game of the season after being introduced in the second-half against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, still only 17-years-old.
At youth level, the dynamic midfielder has been simply superb and has chalked up 46 appearances over the past few seasons, posting seven goals and eight assists and earning praise for the "bags of potential" at his feet, as was said by the Chronicle's Lee Ryder.
In age-belying fashion, he is weaselling his way into a spot that shouldn't be his; Miley, simply, has no right to be as technically tuned, situationally composed or effortlessly graceful on the pitch, but he is, and as journalist Mark Carruthers labelled him – "a powerful runner, good close control and can pick a pass" – he certainly looks to boast all the skills requisite for success at an ambitious outfit on Tyneside.
He would only enjoy a fleeting stint on the pitch, but he certainly impressed during his cameo, with Sofascore presenting him with a 6.8 match score after completing 83% of his passes and hitting the woodwork with a fierce strike late on – that really would have been quite the introduction to the major stage.
This season, the young star has been on the bench for both of Newcastle's Champions League ties – against European juggernauts AC Milan and PSG no less – and has indeed earned himself a display against Pep Guardiola's Man City.
ben-parkinson-lewis-miley-newcastle-opinion
While he was hooked at half-time, Miley did win two of his three ground duels and completed all ten of his passes, though he was seeing too little of the ball.
He is undeniably a top talent and could well be a starring member of a prosperous Newcastle side in the future, and while his "brilliant" displays, as also said by Ryder, have earned him an early shot under Howe's wing, he is not the only one to be knocking on the door.
Who is Ben Parkinson?
From a more offensive standpoint, Newcastle might have another prodigy rising to the fore, with 18-year-old winger Ben Parkinson impressing over the past several years and getting people talking after his displays.
A versatile attacker, capable of finding a home across both flanks, Parkinson is safely ensconced in the U21 outfit despite having only turned 18 in March.

Signing his first professional contract in the summer, the talented prospect is slowly edging towards his senior debut, which may well come this season, with journalist Jeorge Bird claiming he's one to “watch out for”.
Speaking after this momentous moment, Parkinson said: “I think I have benefited a lot from stepping up to the under-21s as it made me realise the level, physicality and pace I needed to match so that I could compete and do well.
“The challenge I enjoyed was coming up against bigger and stronger defenders and trying to find ways of getting the better of them. I think going into next season, understanding and knowing what to expect is a good thing."
Newcastle U21 boss Ben Dawson has also been coloured impressed by the fleet-footed starlet's progress, remarking that his performances have been a "good reflection" of the strides taken in upgrading the overall quality over the past few years.
Noted as a player who loves scoring goals, this could be channelled into something that Howe could make fine use of, especially considering the fact that Harvey Barnes is currently nursing an injury that will keep him sidelined for around three months.
Barnes ranks among the top 6% of attacking midfielders and wingers across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for goals scored per 90, as per FBref, and while Parkinson is some way off that level, he is making impressive increments that tantalise a central role in the future.
With Parkinson and Miley both growing into their skin, Newcastle's hometown cluster is an illumination of the newfound might of this city, reborn in footballing splendour once again.
