Liverpool Could Sign Dream Caicedo Alternative £20m "Leader"

Liverpool are interested in signing Fluminense midfielder Andre this summer, and recent reports might just have tipped the odds in the favour of Jurgen Klopp's side.

Are Liverpool going to sign Andre?

That's according to Brazilian outlet Globo, claiming that the Reds have maintained an interest in the 22-year-old for several years after first sending scouts to observe him in action in 2020.

The Brazilian top-flight outfit's stance on Andre's valuation is said to be irreducible, with Sky Sports reporting that the fee in question stands at a ballpark £20m.

Read the latest Liverpool transfer news HERE…

Fluminense are also reluctant to lose the thriving midfielder midway through the Brazilian Serie A season, but if Klopp pushes for an agreement, Liverpool might just capture their man.

How good is Andre?

Liverpool's focus is currently on sealing a deal for Southampton's 19-year-old holding midfielder Romeo Lavia, though that pursuit is dragging on with Saints unwavering in their £50m valuation.

If the Reds are to achieve their goals this term, the transfer business still to be conducted needs a swift conclusion. Andre's outfit are determined to keep him but money talks in football and Klopp must now lodge a formal offer.

As per Sofascore, the tenacious midfielder has recorded an average rating of 7.09 across 14 matches in the Brazilian top-flight this term, remarkably completing 94% of his passes, averaging 0.9 key passes, 2.1 tackles and 1.5 interceptions per game and succeeding in 63% of his contested ground duels.

Having already earned his first senior Brazil cap, Andre is held in high regard and given that he is a "leader" – as praised by talent scout Jacek Kulig – on the pitch, could bring the kind of personality Klopp covets, especially after losing experienced duo Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabian sides this summer.

Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo.

Hailed as a "top-class roaming playmaker" by Kulig, Andre could be the perfect alternative to Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo, who is valued at £100m amid interest from Chelsea, though Liverpool have also been credited with an interest.

Caicedo is hailed as a "joy to watch" by journalist Josh Bunting and produced an average Sofascore match rating of 7.08 in the Premier League last season, completing 89% of his passes, making 2.7 tackles and 1.5 interceptions per game and succeeding with 57% of his ground duels.

The Ecuadorian also ranks among the top 6% of midfielders across Europe's top five leagues for pass completion, the top 13% for tackles and the top 11% for interceptions per 90, as per FBref, which illustrates his skill as a first-class ball-player and tenacious defensive force.

Comparatively, Andre ranks among the top 1% of midfielders across Men's Next Eight divisions for pass completion and the top 6% for successful take-ons per 90, and given his own passing prowess and directness, he could certainly prove to be a star to rival Caicedo in the future.

Liverpool seemingly do not boast the extravagant funds to pay Brighton what they demand for Caicedo, but given the relatively small fee it would take to sign Andre in comparison, it simply must be completed ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

Unfair to target MS Dhoni – Virat Kohli

The India captain defended MS Dhoni emphasising the latter’s fitness despite his age, and his contributions and importance to the side

‘Happy for the fans that they saw us play’ – Kohli

India captain Virat Kohli has spoken out in support of MS Dhoni, pointing to his importance in the team and emphasising on Dhoni’s fitness despite his age. Questions were raised about Dhoni’s strike rate and his inability to being able to clear the boundary the way he used to, after a 37-ball 49 in the second T20 in Rajkot where India were unable to chase down 197 on a flat track. Kohli himself scored a fighting 65 off 42 balls but Dhoni could not strike at a similar rate.”First, I don’t understand why are people only pointing him out, I’m not able to understand this,” Kohli said on Tuesday after the third T20I against New Zealand in Thiruvananthapuram. “If I fail three times, no one is going to point fingers at me because I’m not over 35. The guy is fit, he is passing all the fitness tests, he is contributing to the team in every way possible, tactically on the field, with the bat. If you look at the series against Sri Lanka and Australia, he did really well and in this series he hasn’t got much time to bat.”Questions have also been raised about Dhoni’s batting position. He usually bats at Nos 5 or 6, giving him less time to build a knock in the latter half of an innings. In the second T20I in Rajkot, Dhoni walked out at No. 6 when India were 67 for 4 and needed 130 runs in just under 11 overs. Kohli believed the criticism against Dhoni for that innings was unfair as the asking rate had already shot up past 11 an over when he came out to bat.BCCI”You have to understand, the position in which he comes out to bat, even Hardik [Pandya] could not score in that game,” Kohli said. “Then why are we only pointing out one man? Hardik also got out in the last T20 that we played in Rajkot. We are conveniently targeting only one man which is not fair. We also have to look at the fact that by the time he comes in, either the run rate is already eight-and-a-half or nine-and-a-half and the wicket is also not the same when the new ball is bowled.”Also, the batsmen who are set from the top, they find it easier to strike the ball straightaway compared to the guys who come lower down the order. And the kind of wicket that we have played on, the wear and tear has been much more in the latter half. You have to assess everything.”As team management and players, we understand the situations in which he goes out to bat. We don’t get emotional and excited by the opinions of people who are looking at things from a different point of view. If you are playing, you know how the wicket is and what the situation is like. So, I think he is doing absolutely fine. He understands his game, he understands his role, but it doesn’t come off every time. He hit a six in Delhi and it was shown five times in the post-match show. Everyone got really happy. And suddenly he doesn’t score in one game and we are after his life. I think people need to be a bit more patient. He’s a guy who understands various cricketers. He’s a very smart guy. He understands where he stands with his body, with his game. So I don’t think anyone else has the right to decide that for him.”

Dilruwan survives after unusual review

Dilruwan Perera, the Sri Lanka allrounder, survived an lbw decision after an unusual route to taking the assistance of the Decision Review System (DRS). At the time of the incident, Dilruwan was batting on 0 off 7 balls. He went on to play out a further 27 balls, and add 43 for the eighth wicket with Rangana Herath.

What the DRS protocol says

The captain may consult with the bowler and other fielders, and the two batsmen may consult with each other prior to deciding whether to request a Player Review. Under no circumstances is any player permitted to query an umpire about any aspect of a decision before deciding on whether or not to request a Player Review. If the on-field umpires believe that the captain or either batsman has received direct or indirect input emanating other than from the players on the field, then they may at their discretion decline the request for a Player Review. In particular, signals from the dressing room must not be given.

In the 57th over of Sri Lanka’s innings, Nigel Llong upheld an lbw appeal from Mohammed Shami when an indipper beat Dilruwan’s forward defensive and hit him on the back pad. Dilruwan turned around and began walking back towards the dressing room, only to turn around and ask for a review. With replays suggesting the ball had struck Dilruwan’s pad outside the line of off stump, Llong had to change his decision to not out.It was not clear what prompted Dilruwan to change his mind, but the TV commentators speculated over whether he had received some sort of signal from the dressing room to turn back and ask for a review. The SLC sent out a release after the day’s play, stating that: “Contrary to the assumptions made, there was no ‘message from the dressing room’ involved in the requested review.”Having mistakenly assumed that Sri Lanka were out of reviews, Dilruwan Perera had turned to leave the field when he heard Rangana Herath inquire from the on-field umpire Nigel Llong if Sri Lanka have any reviews left, to which Mr Llong answered in the affirmative.”It was then that Dilruwan requested the review.”In his post-match press conference, the India fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar did not want to make an issue of the incident.”That’s something I can’t speak on, because that should come out from the officials, and we haven’t heard anything from the officials,” he said. “So it won’t be fair to comment anything on that.”Pressed further, he said the players had not really been looking at Dilruwan when he turned around to review. “We are quiet because until there is an official word about the incident, we cannot speak about it. If we talk about it, but match referee says that was fair, then it would be the wrong thing to do.”We didn’t pay attention to the incident. We were busy celebrating, giving high-fives, and later we watched that on the [giant screen], but we didn’t comment on it because nothing was confirmed from the match officials. So we cannot say anything.”The incident recalled a similar one from Sri Lanka’s recent Test against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi. In Sri Lanka’s second innings there, Kusal Mendis was walking back towards the dressing room after Richard Kettleborough gave him out lbw to Mohammad Abbas, when he turned around and asked for a review. In that instance, the review was unsuccessful, returning an umpire’s call verdict. Llong, incidentally, was the other on-field umpire there. In the Bengaluru Test earlier this year, umpires stopped Australia’s Steven Smith from reviewing an lbw decision against him after he was seen seeking advice from the Australian dressing room. Llong, again, was the umpire who had given him out off Umesh Yadav. In that instance, Smith admitted he had sought help from the dressing room, calling it a brain fade. Virat Kohli, India’s captain, alleged that Australia had done this on at least three occasions during the match, and the BCCI backed him, filing a complaint with the ICC asking for a further investigation. The BCCI, however, withdrew its complaint hours later, after the ICC, having reviewed video footage from the Test match, spoke to the CEOs of both boards, impressing upon them that the charge was near-impossible to prove.

Burnley Reach £14m Agreement For "Excellent" 20 y/o

Burnley have reportedly made a breakthrough and reached an agreement to make their 11th signing of the summer transfer window.

What’s the latest Burnley transfer news?

Vincent Kompany is currently preparing for the Premier League opener against treble winners Manchester City at Turf Moor. However, the Clarets are working hard behind the scenes in the transfer market, with a total of 10 new players already secured with weeks remaining of the window.

Zeki Amdouni, James Trafford, Jordan Beyer, Dara O'Shea, Michael Obafemi, Luca Koleosho, Sander Berge, Nathan Redmond, Lawrence Vigouroux and Jacob Bruun Larsen have all arrived, with Berge the latest addition from rivals Sheffield United.

A move for the Norway midfielder was confirmed on Wednesday evening, with Berge saying:

“I have heard a lot of good things about the Club and seeing the success from outside last season, there’s a great project building here. It’s a great environment full of young talented players from all around the world, so I just think it’s the perfect fit for me.

“The club has high ambitions, making several signings and it all just fits into what I’m looking for.”

Shortly after a move for Berge was confirmed, there were reports of Burnley closing in on another signing in Aston Villa’s Aaron Ramsey.

Reliable reporter David Ornstein took to X to reveal that a verbal agreement has been reached in a deal worth around £14m plus add-ons, with Villa also including a buyback clause.

“Burnley reach verbal agreement with Aston Villa for Aaron Ramsey. Working to finalise deal £14m + add-ons + buyback. Personal terms in place, medical being scheduled.”

Former Middlesbrough loanee Aaron Ramsey.

Who is Aaron Ramsey?

Ramsey is just 20 years of age and is primarily an attacking midfielder who can also turn out in a deeper central midfield role if needed.

An England youth international, the player has progressed the Villa Park academy and his older brother, Jacob, has become a regular in the first team.

Ramsey has been sent out on three different loan moves during his career so far, the first of which came with League One side Cheltenham Town. He made 15 appearances for Cheltenham and spent the previous campaign in the Championship with both Norwich City and Middlesbrough.

In total, Ramsey scored eight times in 29 second-tier appearances last season and came in for praise from former Canaries boss Dean Smith, who said:

“I thought AJ [Ramsey] was excellent in the ten position today. Some of his movement and his flicks and his vision was excellent.

“It’s important we get goals from all across the pitch. Ramsey is starting to get to grips with life in the Championship and has settled in really well, which I would expect because he’s such a good, lovely lad.

"He understands the game, he’s a clever footballer, especially today, you could see that in the first half."

It looks as if his next move will be a permanent one to Turf Moor, and should he go on to develop under Kompany, Burnley may view a transfer as a shrewd piece of business, although Villa will have the option to bring the player back to the Midlands in the future.

West Ham Could Sign Antonio Upgrade With £40m "Starboy"

West Ham United have made good use of the £105m war chest which was secured by selling homegrown talent Declan Rice this summer.

New arrivals have included Mexican gem Edson Alvarez and former Southampton sensation James Ward-Prowse, yet Hammers boss David Moyes will be hoping to bring in another few players before the end of the transfer window, especially with a hectic schedule awaiting them.

Could they be getting closer to securing signing number three of the summer?

A recent update by Fabrizio Romano suggests it might not be long before another player arrives in east London…

Who will West Ham United sign next?

Romano shared an update on West Ham’s pursuit of Ajax gem Mohammed Kudus.

Writing on Twitter, he said:

“West Ham have scheduled new round of talks for Mohammed Kudus deal — the agreement on personal terms is close as final points need to be discussed.

“Verbal negotiation ongoing with Ajax through intermediaries, no formal bid yet but deal advancing.”

Everything looks like it is falling into place for Moyes and there is still plenty of time to get a deal over the line for the player.

It could cost the club in the region of £40m and given just how important he has been for the Dutch giants over the previous 12 months, it could represent a wonderful piece of business.

How good is Mohammed Kudus?

Moyes has bolstered his midfield options by signing Alvarez and Ward-Prowse, and it now looks as though his attacking options will be strengthened with the addition of Kudus.

Last season, only three West Ham players scored over ten goals and despite their extraordinary success on the continent, winning the Europa Conference League, their Premier League form was patchy to say the least.

Moyes’ men won just 11 games while scoring a paltry 42 goals, and it’s evident some added firepower is required in the starting XI.

Michail Antonio topped the scoring charts at the club during 2022/23 with 14 goals, yet Kudus could be a major upgrade on the 33-year-old.

Although he tends to operate as an attacking midfielder, the Ghanaian can also play further forward to great effect.

Indeed, last season, the 23-year-old registered more goals and assists (22 v 16), shots on target per 90 (1.19 v 1.01), shot-creating actions per 90 (3.04 v 2.14) and completed a higher percentage of successful take-ons (59.8% v 46.4%) than Antonio, clearly suggesting he’d offer a greater threat in the final third compared to the West Ham striker.

Mohammed Kudus

Kudus also ranks in the top 10% across the next big eight leagues in Europe for non-penalty goals, shot-creating actions, touches in the attacking penalty area and successful take-ons per 90, showcasing his enormous attacking talent.

In contrast, Antonio fails to even rank in the top 50% across all of these metrics when compared to positional peers in Europe’s top five leagues, and it again proves that Kudus would be a much better option leading the line than the Jamaican international.

Lauded as a “starboy” by former teammate Calvin Bassey, Kudus could take his game to the next level by moving to the Premier League and Moyes would make a huge statement of intent in the process.

Agarwal's triple-century sinks Maharashtra

Mayank Agarwal’s maiden triple-century drove Karnataka to 628 for 5 and a first-innings lead of 383 on the third day against Maharashtra at the MCA Stadium

Mayank Agarwal’s maiden triple-century drove Karnataka to 628 for 5 and a first-innings lead of 383 against Maharashtra at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Agarwal, who came into this match on the back of a pair, notched up an unbeaten 304 off 494 balls that included 28 fours and four sixes. Agarwal had put on 259 for the opening wicket with R Samarth (129) on the second day and resumed on 219. He stretched his third-wicket partnership with Karun Nair to 279. Nair, who was not out on 56 overnight, struck a century of his own, finishing with 116. Karnataka declared shortly after the pair was broken up. Thereafter, medium-pacer Abhimanyu Mithun took Karnataka closer to an innings win by dismissing Maharashtra’s openers cheaply and leaving them at 135 for 4 at stumps.T Ravi Teja continued to have a memorable debut, following his 63-ball 70, with 5 for 49 that helped Hyderabad limit Railways to 246 and enforce the follow on in Delhi. Railways’ openers survived three overs in their second innings and went to stumps unscathed.Resuming their first innings on 35 for 1, Railways began the day well with opener Shivkant Shukla and Nitin Bhille stretching their overnight stand to 78 before legspinner Akash Bhandari pinned Bhille in front for 43. Ravi Teja then had Shukla lbw and went onto slice through the middle order. From 93 for 1, Railways tumbled to 135 for 7. Anureet Singh (60) and Manish Rao (33) then put on 85 for the eighth wicket to haul the score beyond 200. Left-arm spinner Mehdi Hasan pitched in with two wickets as Hyderabad claimed a 228-run first-innings lead. Anureet’s maiden first-class fifty contained nine fours.

Rangers: Beale Could Ditch Davies By Signing "Outstanding" Titan At Ibrox

Glasgow Rangers have announced no changes to their Champions League squad ahead of the vital qualifier against PSV Eindhoven, with the winner progressing to the lucrative group stages.

This means that centre-back Ben Davies misses out once again, having failed to make the squad for the ties against Servette and his future now surely lies away from Ibrox.

Will Ben Davies leave Rangers?

At the start of August, The 4th Official gave a transfer update surrounding a few players, with Davies being told that he was free to secure a move away from the club.

The Englishman only arrived in Glasgow last summer, costing £4m from Liverpool, yet his time at the Gers hasn’t gone to plan.

His Premiership performances last term proved he was out of his depth as he ranked in a lowly 14th spot while also failing to rank in the top five for tackles and interceptions per game, failing to have a positive influence on the squad.

Read the latest Rangers transfer news HERE…

Teddy Bears boss Michael Beale should now spend the remainder of the transfer window trying to recoup some of he £4m fee spent on him in 2022 while also aiming to sign a direct replacement in the process.

Are Rangers interested in Zak Vyner?

According to Bristol Live, the Light Blues have recently shown interest in Zak Vyner as Beale looks to add at least another centre-back to his squad before the end of the window.

Championship side Southampton are also keen on landing the defender this summer, yet the lure of European football will surely favour the Gers in pursuit – with just 12 months left on his current contract at Bristol City, Beale should be aiming to land Vyner for a knockdown fee.

Although the Glasgow side have signed Leon Balogun and Dujon Sterling, the news that Davies could potentially be on his way out indicates that adding another centre-back to cope with the demands a hectic schedule is vital.

Vyner has prior experience of Scottish football, playing 18 times for Aberdeen during the 2019/20 campaign and although this isn’t exactly the best barometer of success, the 26-year-old will know what is expected of him North of the border.

His most impressive spell has come at City however, making 146 appearances for the Championship side across three and a half seasons, and he has begun the current 2023/24 season in excellent fashion.

Bristol City defender Zak Vyner.

Following his displays during the first two league ties, Vyner ranks second in the whole squad for overall Sofascore rating (7.1), while ranking first for accurate passes per game (45.5) and interceptions per game (1.5).

This shows he is already having a positive impact on the team and there is no doubt he could be a solid option for Beale to utilise.

He was lauded by his former manager Dean Holden following his first goal for City back in 2021, who said:

“Zak will score better goals, but he will always remember his first for us.

“I was right behind the shot and my only concern was that it might spin wide. I just wish there had been a crowd and his family here to see it.

“He deserved it because it was his first start for me in a new position and I thought his performance was outstanding.”

The next two weeks will hopefully see Beale bring in some more reinforcements at Ibrox, will Vyner be one of them? It would be a shrewd move if the titan did arrive, that’s for sure, as it could see the Ibrox giants finally move on from Davies.

Tottenham Could Sign "Frightening" £50m De Bruyne Clone

Tottenham Hotspur’s summer spending seems set to continue, with the money earned from their recent Harry Kane sale set to fund a number of even more extravagant purchases for Ange Postecoglou…

Who are Tottenham Hotspur signing this summer?

Whilst a new no.9 might spearhead the agenda, that is seemingly not deterring the Lilywhites from perusing the other offensive options available on the market.

A plethora of European talent gives the all-action manager a wealth of options to choose from, yet there is a new target that has emerged on their shortlist.

Read the latest Tottenham transfer news HERE…

Although Fabrizio Romano might have suggested that it was Manchester City in the ascendency when it came to securing a deal for Jeremy Doku, alternative reports now claim otherwise.

This comes via The Independent, who note Spurs’ interest in the Belgian trickster, having joined the race with a host of other Premier League clubs. French outfit Rennes are holding out for a mouth-watering £50m figure to sanction his exit.

How good is Jeremy Doku?

If the mesmeric 21-year-old whiz has caught the attention of Pep Guardiola, then that should be enough of a glowing recommendation to suggest that he would thrive in north London.

After all, the young wide talent already boasts 91 first-team appearances for his current club, having posted 11 goal contributions across all competitions last season.

However, it is far from just the tangible assets that make Doku so desired, with FBref helping to outline his creativity and tendency to petrify defenders.

jeremy-doku

Such is his ability to forge chances for his teammates, the legendary compatriot of the wide man Kevin De Bruyne sits on his ‘similar players’ list on FBref.

These comparisons are emphasised further when delving into his underlying statistics, as when compared to midfielders across Europe he sits in the top 1% for progressive carries, successful take-ons, touches in the attacking penalty area and shot-creating actions all per 90, via FBref.

He is fast, direct and dynamic, yet boasts incredible technical proficiency to see him placed alongside the 32-year-old star – former West Ham United defender Anton Ferdinand even suggested he was “frightening” when speaking on the Five YouTube channel back in 2022.

With De Bruyne having recently been ruled out for the foreseeable future, a sizable vacancy will be left at the Etihad, with the creative maestro having recorded 41 goal contributions last campaign across all competitions.

ange

He was instrumental in their historic treble and is regarded by some as the best Premier League midfielder of all time. This fed into his league form, where he created 31 big chances and averaged 3.1 key passes per game in the league last season, via Sofascore.

For comparison, in Ligue 1 Doku would create six big chances of his own, instead averaging one key pass per game, via Sofascore. He may not be quite as clinical in his creation but has pace and power that his alternative certainly lacks.

However, with the ever-changing revolutionary state that Postecoglou’s side is in, he can surely offer far more first-team assurances than Guardiola. Not only that, but promises could be made and, crucially, kept, to convince such a young superstar that his presence could usher in a sparkling new era in north London.

Just as the Manchester club built the foundation for their unlimited success upon De Bruyne’s shoulders, the new Spurs head coach could seek to do the same with a young gem set to set the world stage alight.
